Illustrating childhood stories with heart, heritage, and honour.

Read for a child | Live - for a child

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Itaú’s beloved literacy campaign Leia para uma Criança (Read for a Child), I was invited to illustrate three animated storybook videos. These stories were brought to life by an incredible team of animators and narrated live by national icons — Gilberto Gil, Gaby Amarantos, and Dr. Dráuzio Varella.
The project was a visual tribute to Brazilian creativity, education, and emotional connection through reading.
The Challenge
Each of the three books had a distinct tone, audience, and emotional purpose. My challenge was to adapt my illustration style to reflect the narrative spirit of each story — from homage and hope to fantasy and tradition — while also supporting the pacing and transitions required for motion design.
Super Protetores
A tribute to frontline workers during the Covid-19 pandemic.
My illustrations emphasized resilience and compassion, combining everyday settings with warm, heroic symbolism.
A Flor que Chegou Primeiro
A story of perseverance from the 2016 Portuguese Language Olympics winner.
For this poetic narrative, I created a calm, contemplative visual world inspired by natural cycles and personal growth.
O Apanhador de Acalantos
Written by a 13-year-old, this dreamlike tale won the 2019 edition.
I brought a whimsical style to life, using surreal details and delicate movement-ready lines to honour the wonder of childhood imagination.
Outcome
- Premiered across Itaú’s platforms and widely shared in national media
- Celebrated for its sensitivity, artistic execution, and emotional depth
- Reinforced the social value of illustration and storytelling in public education campaigns
- A proud personal milestone in my journey as an illustrator and collaborator
Reflection
This project blended illustration, literature, animation, and public service into one unified emotional experience. It reminded me how powerful design can be when it supports a story that matters — especially when that story is for children.
